The powershot G10 is the lastest successor of the G series, overtaking the G9 in function and ergonomic features. It looks almost identical to the G9 series, but several features allows it to top the G series.

The G10 comees with a 14.7 megapixel CCD sensor. Light weight yet powerful, it’s a good alternative to the SLR. Equipped with a wide angle 5 times optical zoom, the lens allows basic wide angle shots without any add on lenses.

G10 uses cannon Digic 4 image processor, which renders sharp quality images with good colour and tone. The G10 takes clear shots with minimal artifacts, although noise level is barely bearable by the time I”m shooting in ISO 800.

Design is good. Light weight but a sturdy hold which doesn’t make it feel “cheap” like a dummy camera. The buttons are well placed and switching exposure, ISO very intuitive. The auto focus functions does well for most simple shots and multi-focus and face detection is simple to use and churns out decent pictures.

Major dislike is that Auto white balance is a little off and tends to turn out too cool in daylight condition.

The video function is minimal and with maximum capture of 40 fps only.

With the price of a G10, I would personally spend a few hundred more and get a SLR. However, if you would like a compact, light weight camrea with enough power in it’s shots, or something you can carry around on a holiday without much fuss, the G10 proves to be the best companion.
