With the economic recession going on, the hot techno gadget now is mini laptops. They are not only small, slim but also light! Their prices are also less steep than the normal laptops, but they have most of the functions of the normal laptop. These laptops are usually the size of a book and can sometimes weigh as light as 2.25 lbs. Dell, Asus and Hewlett-Packard(HP) are one of the many technology companies who are investing into this new trend of mini-laptops.

These mini-laptop PCs are especially good for students who do not need very high-end functions in their PCs and for work purposes, this mini-laptop PC is great to bring about due to its compact size!

In this post, I will introduce you all to HP’s MIni 1000 family mini-laptops:

1) HP 2133 Mini-Note PC

This is the older version of HP 2133 Mini-Note

- 2.6 pounds

- 8.9-inch screen with a high-resolution (1280×768)

- runs on Windows Vista, Windows XP ($599) or Linux($499)

- has C7 processor from Via Technologies

- 120 gigabyte or 160 gigabyte hard disk drive

- Linux version has a flash drive option with four gigabytes of memory

- Integrated optional webcam

- acrylic coating

- no built-in CD-ROM/DVD drive (can read CD-roms/DVD by buying an extra accessory to be plugged into USB port)

Newer version of HP 2133 Mini-Note PC

This is a newer version of HP 2133 Mini-Note PC, it uses Intel integrated graphics chip sets and a chic design to suit the need of people nowadays to make a fashion statement.

The 10.2 inch version cost only $50 more and has wireless networking capability via Wi-Fi. December versions even have built-in EVDO connectivity! The hard drive is 60GB also.

However, one bad point about such mini-laptop PCs is that do not have an in-built CD ROM/DVD reader. One has to buy an extra accessory, which means extra spending to buy a “portable” CD ROM/DVD reader to be plugged into the USB port.

Love it, hate it, it’s here to stay in the PC world this 2009.
