Nikon Coolpix S1000pj

We all know about Nikon’s Coolpix cameras: sleek, slim with simple but effective shooting. This one goes one up with a built in projector.

The Nikkon Coolpix S1000pj has a maximum resolution of 12.1 megapixel with 5x optical zoom, with a decent size 2.7 inch LCD viewer.

The projector has a range of up to 6.5 feet. The quality is as good as a normal colour TV, but definitely nothing compared to the LCD screen. The camera comes with a projector stand and a remote control. This cool new feature allows you to show everyone in the room the photos you have just taken, a very cool party gadget to have.

Review

This has in the recent one week became my personal phone. While I was initially looking for a phone with more function, I was impressed by the fact that it was an eco-green phone and looks stylist without looking cheap.
The phone is simple to use and user interface is inutitive, especially if you have used an Sony Erisson phone before.

Good

Excellent battery life. As promised, the phone uses much less power in it’s standby mode. What I find is even the talk time is great, averaging 13 to 14 hours.

The phone is made from recycled plastic. It feels sturdy and I feel that it is not one of the delicate phones which will die on me just when I need it most.

The phone is cheap, you should be able to get it free with any subscription plans.

Screen is bright and clear. A pleasure to view

Bad

Camera quality is average, especially after trying other phones with much better cameras. Sound quality is acceptable, but I probably won’t use this as my walkman phone.

Conclusion

This simple phone is a wonderful reminder of what mobile phones should be, just phone without trying to be everything else. There is also the feel good factor of carrying an eco-friendly phone. Once in a while, I do miss better quality cameras in my other phones.

Ikee worm spreading on iPhone

Yesterday , history was made in iphone books. Thousands of iPhone users in Australia woke up to a rude shock of seeing 1980s pop idol Rick Astley’s picture on their phone. It comes with a message “Ikee is never going to give you up”, in reference to the idol’s song “Never gonna give you up”

The worm was created by 21 year ld student Ashley Towns. He is said to have created the worm to create awareness of the security flaws in the user’s iphone.

Currently, it seems like the worm only affects iPhones which has been “jail broken” (In which user’s phone operating system is changed to allow them to run any software), and users who did not change their default password of “alpine”

Thankfully, the worn does not major harm and is not malicious. But it has sure done it’s job of warning users to be careful with the security of their iPhones.

Google One box Unveiled

Goggle had another first, this time in the music arena. Goggle started google OneBox a service for searching and then listening and buying whole songs online. In essence, it does away with 2 annoying things that users often face previously. 1) Finding full length versions of the song samples t listen to. 2) Having to search through various sites to buy songs.

Goggle OneBox is currently only available in the US, but will certainly be strongly supported by music industry players. Many see this service as one of the way to reduce the increasing trend of music piracy by providing an easy and quick way for users to find original music labels.

Cannon Powershot G11

The cannon G11 does what powershot cameras promised: professional capabilities with a fixed lens. The cannon G11 comes with a 28mm wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom. Being a semi professional camera, you can play with shutter speed, aperture settings, ISO easily.
This 10 megapixel camera shows why cannon is such a popular brand for professional cameras. The pictures taken in auto mode were crisp and clean, the rendering of colours were realistic and distortion was present but not obvious towards the edges of the photo.

Overall, it is a relatively light weight camera that allows you to take photos you can be proud of.

  • Review

Nikkon is well know for producing good quality lenses at a decent price. The D3000 SLR comes with AF-S Nikon 18-55mm Lens which allows the camera good, crisp images. This is actually a very good packaged lens compared to many other brands.

The camera is easy to handle for both beginners and for photographers who are familair with nikon camera. It can be a little daughting to people who are more used to cannon SLRs, but it shouldn’t take more than 1 day to figure out the quick buttons to apertures, shutter speed etc.

While switching aperture and shutter speed is easy, changing other parameters like exposure and ISO settings tends to be a little more trouble as there is no single knob i can use, but I suspect this helps with the simplicity of use for people who don’t change these parameters often.

The Nikon battery is of decent battery life, the new battery lasting an average of 500 shots before running out

    .
The response time is almost instantaneous, and pictures are undistorted in most focal lengths even at the edges in bright lights. The night mode is average and images are noisy at ISO 800 and above.

The best part of the Nikon D3000 is the price, and it should be a good toy to carry around on holidays or more rugged trips. Overall, Nikon once again proved itself most able to produce maximum cost effectiveness in it’s SLRs with the D3000.
